Sustainable development and environmental stewardship are the major principles upon which Jade Planet is founded. Conservation of resources, protection of wildlife habitats, and preservation of biodiversity are key company concerns, as is the alleviation of poverty, both locally and globally. Our overall goal is to help leave the Earth healthy and safe for future generations.

We believe that viable, long term economic growth for individuals, businesses, and societies should only occur within the ecological bounds and limitations set by nature. At Jade Planet, we are totally committed to integrating the principles of sustainable development and environmental stewardship throughout all aspects of our management and operations. Our primary operational tactic for contributing toward a sustainable world is to manufacture all of our products predominantly from reused and recycled materials as well as sustainably harvested plant materials or materials which help aid cultural or ecological survival in a developing country.

We pledge to fulfill our commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship by adhering to the following principles wherever we operate throughout the world. In managing and operating our company we will strive to make continual progress and improvement in implementing these policies.

1. PRODUCTS MADE FROM REUSED AND RECYCLED MATERIALS

We will manufacture our products using the greatest percentage of reused and recycled materials that current technology and availability allow that doesn't sacrifice quality, and we will create and broaden markets for these products and materials.

2. PRODUCTS FROM PLANT MATERIALS

Whenever we use plant materials in our products, we will strive to use sustainably harvested plant materials, and we will establish programs aimed at developing supplies and markets for such materials.

3. HIGH QUALITY PRODUCTS

We will manufacture products that are equal or superior to the best that are available in the footwear industry in terms of value, style, comfort, durability, aesthetics, and overall quality.

4. AUDIT AND ASSESSMENT

We will audit and assess (at times using outside auditors) all aspects of our operations and processes in order to minimize environmental, health, and safety risks or unfair treatment to our employees, stakeholders, customers and the communities in which we operate, and we will make this information available to the public.

5. CRUELTY- FREE PRODUCTS

We will not obtain our product components such as dyes, adhesives, plastics, fabrics, rubber and other synthetics, from suppliers who use secondary animal testing in developing their materials or compounds, nor will we use animal testing in developing any Jade Planet products. If we were to ever source any animal product materials such as wool or leather, we would source them from either reused or recycled sources or non-factory farms where the animals are free-range, treated with respect, fed organic grain, and if slaughtered, it will be done humanely and respectfully of the animal’s sacrifice and the hides will be tanned using the most ecological processes known.

6. FULL DISCLOSURE

We will fully disclose the reused, recycled and raw material content of our footwear to retailers, consumers and all stakeholders and provide them with any other nonproprietary information on the company and processes used in the manufacture of Jade Planet.

7. RESPECT AND HONESTY

We will treat our employees, consumers, retailers, and all other stakeholders with respect and honesty and respond to their input and concerns in a quick and timely manner.

8. GOING BEYOND COMPLIANCE

We will comply with all environmental, health, and safety regulations directed at our industry and adopt more stringent standards aimed at minimizing risks to all of our stakeholders and the environment.

9. CREATE AN ENJOYABLE AND HEALTHY WORKPLACE

We will create an enjoyable and satisfying workplace, providing adequate lighting and comfortable surroundings for our employees and we will encourage participation and communication.

10. PUBLIC OUTREACH

We will establish active programs of public outreach and communication aimed at creating cooperative approaches for protecting the environment and enhancing the quality of life. In all communities in which we operate, we will solicit citizen participation and take into account their feedback on company decisions that may affect our neighbors.

11. BUSINESS OUTREACH

We will explore and initiate programs and projects focusing on environmental and social responsibility with other companies sharing similar philosophies, goals, and objectives to those of Jade Planet in order to expand and implement the concepts of sustainable development and environmental stewardship throughout the business community.

12. EDUCATION AND TRAINING

We will provide regular training and educational programs for employees, sales representatives, retailers, and the public which further the understanding and global implications of sustainable development and environmental stewardship. In addition we will focus on educating stakeholders concerning the specific social issues our business addresses, with the goal of offering motivation, inspiration, and a sense of personal fulfillment in working toward building a successful business together while considering the impact of our decisions on the "3 P's"

13. SHARING KNOWLEDGE

We will advocate high standards of health, safety, environmental protection and human rights within the footwear industry and will share our experience, knowledge and technology in these areas with other companies in order to minimize the overall risks associated with manufacturing footwear.

14. SUPPORTING CAUSES

We will donate a percentage of profits to environmentally and socially responsible causes which are consistent with our goals of resource conservation, habitat protection, species survival, and the prevention of human and animal suffering.

15. WORKING WITH STAKEHOLDERS

We will build working relationships with all company stakeholders, including government agencies, the scientific community, educational institutions, public interest groups, environmental organizations, and the general public to promote the principles of sustainable development and to find innovative solutions to environmental, health, safety and other social issues.

16. HONORING COMMUNITY VALUES

We will honor and respect the social, cultural, and environmental values of communities with whom we have established programs of conservation based development and economic self reliance, and we will conduct all activities associated with these programs under the auspices and direction of appropriate cooperatives, community leaders, and representatives.

17. CORPORATE BUYING

We will support manufacturers of environmentally and socially responsible products by adhering to a procurement policy which favors office and other supplies made either with recycled, reused, or sustainably harvested plant materials or materials that promote habitat protection and cultural or species survival.
